ATHLETE WITH A DISABILITY NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT TO COMPETE IN 2009 WORLD COMPETITION

My name is Steve Hornsey and I am a competitive World and National Champion Disabled Water Skier Champion who has previously held the world record in Jump and Slalom events.  Competitive water skiing is my passion and has earned me awards of distinction at the Disabled Water Ski Nationals since 1989 as well as qualifications for the World Competition five times.  At the 2008 Disabled Water Ski National Championships, team trials in DuQuoin, Illinois, my performance qualified me for one of the eleven positions allotted on the US Disabled Water Ski Team. As a 2009 US Team Member I will gratefully represent our country by competing at the World Disabled Water Ski Championships in Vichy France, Aug 30-Sept 6, 2009.  

A select number of trained athletes sacrifice all year to arrive at the World Championships in peak mental and physical condition. USA Water Ski (governing body for water skiing in the USA) provides some funding, however the location of the tournament and size of the team (which includes sit-skiers, blind skiers, and arm and leg amputee skiers), cause travel expenses to be very costly; therefore, each individual is responsible for raising the remainder of the funds to support their attendance.  Expenses for this biennial event will cost approximately $6,500 per athlete.
